Easter 09: Video Part 1

The music for this service has been some of my favorite that we’ve ever done in my time at Kensington.  Today is the elements from the front half of the service, tomorrow is the back half!

The theme for the service was based on 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” God takes the trash and junk of our lives and makes us into new creations every day!

The opener began with this…

Which transitioned into this…

After a drama about life crashing down for a married couple, this song came next leading into the message. This is a KCC original, written by lead vocalist, Danny Cox.

Come back tomorrow for the back half of the service!

Awesome! I’m continually impressed with what you guys do.
Tim, one question..do you have any the gear the guitarist used for Magnificent? I noticed a Whammy on the solo, but can’t seem to cop that tone from the main riffs. Any info?

    Blessings!

    Hey dude…

I’ve dropped Mike an email for a quick explanation of his rig. I know it was really simple for him – 2 VOX amps (I believe one was an AC15 and the other an AC30) run in stereo fed from some kind of delay or maybe two delay pedals. He had a pretty scaled down pedal board and a lot of what you’re hearing is both of those amps run to blistering levels (in an isolation room offstage, thank you Jesus!), mic’d with SM57s just off center of the cones. Simple, classic techniques really. Hopefully I’ll hear back from him soon and will post his reply!

ETC: Radial SGI’s, which I’ve written about before, are an AWESOME tool to be able to isolate amps off stage in a location where they can run loud. Since amps like the VOX or Marshalls always sound better loud, this is the only way to go!

Thanks! I thought you might say something like that ;) I’ve been using a L6 PODX3L to cut down on our stage volume and although it sounds OK, it’s just not the same. (plus I find I’m a techie in everything BUT guitar…I just hate anything with a menu system while I’m playing ;) I’ve been thinking about getting a tube head and run a cabinet offstage from my office.

Looking forward to hearing what pedals, etc. he’s got. Feel free to email me if you don’t want to clutter up your blog with guitar gear chat ;)

    From Mike, the guitar player…

Guitar –> 2 loop true bypass loop (1st loop has Digitech Whammy and the 2nd Loop has a Dyna Comp) –> T-Rex Moller Overdrive –> Boss Giga delay set to 1/4 note delay in mono (Using the Modulation delay setting) –> another Boss Giga delay set to the panning setting at a dotted 1/8 note delay with the left and right output going to 2 different Vox AC15′s. That was the whole setup that I used for everything this Easter.

(My note: I can’t say enough that a big part of the quality of the tone is that both AC15s were DANG LOUD!!! Very thankful for isolation of guitar cabs!!)
