Grammy FOH Production
I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was a tad bit disappointed with the broadcast mix for the Grammy’s this year. However, here’s an interesting video interview with the FOH guys. Enjoy!

My name is Tim Corder. I started this blog in February 2007 because there were so few of what I considered good church audio resources available at the time for my team. Fast forward over 5 years and I'm still at it, sharing learnings about the journey towards making audio great. I go through periods where I post a lot and other times when I don't. I'm thankful for the opportunity to share it all with you. Thanks for visiting!
Thanks Tim!
Since you mentioned the broadcast mix I will agree with you. I get to mix broadcast at our place on a regular basis and know how difficult it can be. Having said that, the Grammy awards should be setup and have the opportunity to get it more right than I ever could. There were some bright spots for sure, but it seems like something is missing. I know its not just a data compression thing coming off my satellite as I watch lots of concerts on HDNet and they often sound stellar, so something else is missing. I would like to hear the raw feed someday.
They should get you to mix it. Your FOH mixes sound pretty amazing to me.
The word I heard from a friend who was on the inside loop of the production crew was challenges between the arena, uplink, and master control. I’m told quite confidently the feed from the building was quite different from what ended up in our living rooms.
Mixing the Grammys would be a dream job for sure. Thank you for the kind words!
cool link! Thanks TIm. I agree, the broadcast mix was…not the greatest. I’m continually bugged by the HD mixes I hear on TV. Did you catch any of Jimmy Fallon’s 1st week? The mix was awful! And he has The Roots as a house band for cryin’ out loud! And on our local NBC, they had the front and rear signals crossed on Leno for over 2 weeks!
